Buying a car and driving a car

1. Car Purchase Notice
Vehicle registration
According to Türkiye's Road Traffic Law, the owner of a motor vehicle must register his vehicle with the Türkiye General Safety Administration (Enniyet GenelM ü d ü rl ü ğ). The first registration of a vehicle must be completed within 3 months after purchase. When registering a vehicle, it is necessary to submit a notarized purchase contract, purchase invoice, vehicle qualification certificate, mandatory insurance, special consumption tax (SCT) payment certificate, identification documents, etc. Handle notarization. When purchasing a vehicle, both the dealer and the buyer have an obligation to notarize the purchase behavior, and there are slight differences in the notarization process between purchasing a new car and a used car. Generally speaking, the buyer is required to pay a notarization fee of 224 lira (2019). If a vehicle loan is used when purchasing a vehicle, the bank must be notified and notarized together with the bank's designated personnel.

2 Driving Instructions

The foreign driver's license is valid for 6 months in Türkiye. After 6 months, the driver needs to convert the foreign driver's license to a local driver's license. When converting a driver's license, the driver needs to submit an application to the local transportation department, notarize their passport and license, and go to the tax bureau to pay the license conversion fee. The application review time is about one and a half months.
